Psychological Impressions
During
the conduct of all the tests, M generally showed pleasant and compliant
attitude. There is also nothing that was observed which may impede his
answering and completing the tests.
M
performed well in non-language test suggesting his good inclination on tasks
requiring abstraction. He also scored
high in mental ability tests which consisted verbal, numerical sequences and
abstract reasoning tasks. These skills are important in carrying his task as
facilitator of learning in class.
However,
his teaching aptitude is low implying that he is yet to be well oriented with
the duties and ethics that teachers need to execute.
Results of BarOn EQ test show that M’s
personality includes being well able to understand himself, deal with stress
and handle anxiety, being optimistic and effectively resolve interpersonal
problems.
Based
on BPI, M has low levels of anxiety and interpersonal problems. He can remain
calm and unmoved when confronted by unexpected occurrences. His ability to
maintain self-control in a crisis situation is a good character expected from a
teacher. He also experiences less than average irritation from other people
making him able to stand through stressful classes. Nevertheless, M’s high
levels of persecutory ideas, social introversion and deviation are also
something to consider. He has the tendency to think ill of other people’s
motives, avoids people generally and be uncomfortable when around others. He
also seeks to behave very differently from other people.
On EPI, M
scored high on timid and controlled scales. This implies that he tends to be
cautious about getting into trouble and anxious about what people may think/say
about him. He also tends to be organized in dealing with his environment and
likes things to be in order. He will make up a shy but systematic teacher. M
scored low on the following emotion scales: dyscontrolled, aggressive, gregarious,
and trustful. He tends to be reluctant to try new things and fail express anger
overtly. As a teacher he might resort to conventional way of teaching and use
disciplining styles that impose less force. Also, M’s unfriendly and
unaccepting attitude, as what the test shows, might give his students an
impression of him as being an unaffectionate teacher. His high scores on both
timidity and control may also a sign of anxiety patterns with strong likelihood
of phobic and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
His introversion tendency, as found
in EPI and BPI is also reflected on his drawing. Such personality pattern might
be rooted on his perceived low self-image as speculated by the tool. The
disposition/concern or attitude that was reflected on the drawings is basically
centered on his being a self-reserved individual.
Recommendation
Given these psychological
impressions, the following recommendations are made:
·
M,
as a prospective college faculty, is qualified on the basis of his intellectual
capacity.
·
He
needs to be well-guided and informed about the duties, responsibilities, and professional/ethical
standards of teaching.
·
Since
his melancholic temperament might be reflected on his future way of dealing
with his students (e.g., disciplinary style, teaching method), he might benefit
from some sort of teaching supervision or assistance as well as some
personality enhancement seminars for beginning teachers. However, it should be
noted that M is well capable of handling stressful or socially anxious situations.
·
Further
interview and unobtrusive behavioral observation can be performed to validate
or confirm the findings of the tests.
